On behalf of Emerald City Roller Derby and The Big O Committee, we are proud to announce that we will be moving forward in the planning of the biggest and best roller derby tournament of the year in Eugene, Oregon for 2018. We hope that our local community as well as our derby community will mark their calendars and purchase tickets to come and support The Big O this Spring. The tournament will be held at the Lane County Events Center from May 4-6th, 2018.

Our tournament has faced great adversity this last year after encountering unforeseen cost increases that threatened our chance to host the tournament again. The Big O Committee has worked tirelessly over the Summer to work through a more sustainable financial model for our tournament’s success as well as actively working to seek financial support through grant applications and crowdsource funding. While we have not met the specified target for pre-event raised funds yet, we are confident we have the resources to run the tournament at least one more year!!

In the meantime, we continue to seek supplemental financial support through grants and the current crowdsource campaign in order to plan beyond the Big O 2018. PLEASE CONSIDER MAKING A DONATION TODAY: Click here

Our sustainability plan includes building a bigger financial cushion so that we can better sustain years where we encounter unexpected expense increases and/or income decreases like we did in 2017. We are eternally grateful for the support that we have felt from the community for our crowdsource funding campaign to date; we hope the news that the tournament will encourage more contributions!

We believe that roller derby tournaments should not just be an amazing experience for the teams that come to play but that it should be a killer time for the fans who want to watch their favorite teams or favorite skaters play together and against each other in the same weekend. We work many hours in preparation every year to ensure we improve the tournament experience from every vantage point whether that person be an official, skater, fan, or volunteer. In order for our tournament to continue we need to see those stands packed with all of you! So mark your calendars out for May 4-6, 2018 and plan to come to Eugene, Oregon for the best roller derby tournament in the world.

The Big O 2018 planning is beginning! We are overjoyed to release this form to our derby community for 2018. If your team is interested in being invited to the Best Tournament in the World then you should complete this form! Deadline is November 1st, 2017 to be considered for an invitation by our Gaming Committee.

The Big O is featuring a local appreciation night on Friday, May 5th, the first day of the three-day tournament; showcasing the competition, the fun, and the intensity of roller derby to our local community. There will be raffle prizes from local sponsors as well as a variety of local non-profit organizations.

Spectators will experience men’s, women’s and junior derby including what may be the hottest games of the tournament. On Friday At 6:30pm, the #1 ranked  men’s roller derby team and reigning world champions, the St. Louis Gatekeepers, take on Wheels of Mayhem from Ensenada, Mexico. At 8pm the 2016 women’s World Champions, the Rose City Rollers from Portland, Oregon take on Victorian Roller Derby League from Melbourne, Australia (currently the highest ranked team in the world).

The action will continue all weekend with more than 15 games each day spread across 3 separate tracks. The tournament closes with two exhibition bouts: The Big O MVPs vs USA Roller Derby. Fourteen skaters from USA Roller Derby will compete against the Big O MVP team (a team of skaters yet to be determined by “most valuable player” votes by opponents during the 3-day tournament).  There will be both a men’s and women’s game. The games begin at 8pm on Sunday evening
